The definition of sustainable development

The United Nations Division for Sustainable Development defines sustainable development as:

"Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs".

What do you think about this definition?

Particularly, do you think this definition is useful for policy action?

This seems like a modern definition of sustainable. There is nothing about altering nature. It seems like they are trying to make means for development.
